Jaguar Land Rover Goes Electric With New Range Rover Electric

Fancy a luxury, can do all, zero-emissions luxury SUV? Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has finally given us a glimpse of their all-electric Range Rover Electric in action! They’ve released some revealing images of the car kicking up snow while drifting across a frozen lake in the Arctic Circle. Now that’s a way to grab our attention!

The first look shows a vehicle that sticks closely to the classic Range Rover style. The big changes? A sleek, aerodynamic front grille and, of course, that telltale green flash on the number plate that marks it out as an electric vehicle. In these photos, we even get a sneak peek at its charging system, bravely battling layers of ice. Hopefully, those flaps can handle the freeze!

Unmatched All-Terrain Capability?

JLR isn’t just giving us a pretty picture, though. This Range Rover Electric is built to be a powerhouse on any surface. Their in-house propulsion system promises to keep that legendary Range Rover performance intact. Let’s see if it can live up to the hype!

JLR’s engineers have even developed a new traction control system specifically tailored for this electric beast. It can adjust power to individual wheels within milliseconds for better handling on ice and slippery roads. They even claim this system will reduce the need for standard ABS, making the whole driving experience smoother.

Electric Power, Range Rover Refinement

Thomas Mueller, Executive Director for Product Engineering, is keen to assure us this isn’t just another electric SUV. “Range Rover with electric power means customary Range Rover luxury, refinement and capability, plus near-silent fully electric propulsion.” Are you ready for those smooth, quiet drives?

The Range Rover Electric isn’t just built for the cold. To prove its durability, it’ll also face scorching desert heat in the Middle East. With such extreme testing, JLR seems determined to create an EV that stands the test of time.

Will the Tech Keep Up?

The Range Rover brand carries a lot of weight, especially in the luxury SUV market. To truly rival other high-end EVs, this thing needs some cutting-edge tech under the hood. It’s got to support 800-volt architecture for lightning-fast charging – ideally hitting at least 300kw with a steady charging curve. Plus, we’re talking about a Range Rover here – a real-world range of at least 300 miles is a must! If JLR can’t deliver on these points, they might be facing an uphill battle.

What’s Next?

Both the battery and Electric Drive Unit (EDU) are being developed in-house at JLR. The Range Rover will be the company’s second EV, following the Jaguar I-Pace, which was launched back in 2018.
